Description

In 1936, Ford offered 18 different models (including a station wagon, which was considered a commercial vehicle). This was the first year Ford offered two different distinct series - the Deluxe and the Standard. The basic difference between the series was that the Deluxe was considered to be fancier than the Standard, with more trim and extra exterior chrome. During this second year of styling a facelift was given, and this included a new grille, fenders, hood, and a wheel change from spoke to steel-pressed wheels. All Ford models used the 90 hp V8 engine and mechanical brakes

The major car shows in Dallas, Atlantic City, and Cleveland saw the Ford presented in a dramatic and exciting fashion with one model on a float, appearing as if in the clouds, literally and visually demonstrating a “soft ride”. Also, the “human Ford” was the talk of the auto show crowd as it answered questions with the help of a ventriloquist.

Two major milestones were met by Ford, one on June of 1935 when the 2,000,000th Ford rolled off the assembly line and then in May of 1936 when the 3,000,000th Ford hit the showroom floor. Even with these milestones, Ford saw Chevrolet take the sales lead by almost 200,000 units in 1936. Ford may have been second in sales in its time, but as a collector car in contemporary time, it is well appreciated by auto buffs. The 5-window coupe, the phaeton, and even the woody wagon certainly cause a stir at car collector events.
