The Marymount campus was purchased in 1919 by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Tacoma, WA. At that time, it was 100 acres with a farm house. Marymount Military Academy opened as a boy's school on May 30th, 1923. It was run as a boy's military school until 1975 when the church decided to cease its operation of the military school, but for several years following this policy shift, the nuns operated Marymount as a school that taught English as a second language.
Marymount was essentially a retirement home and convalescent center for the nuns until the late 1980's, when the church decided to sell the property. When the church solicited proposals from potential buyers, Harold LeMay's proposal was the lone bid that would preserve the buildings and grounds, and the sisters were promised access to Marymount as long as they wished.
The Marymount campus is often considered a "hidden gem" or a "community asset", where visitors can enjoy the LeMay family's nostalgic collections on tours or during private events.
